Reconnecting

Ever think about… Reconnecting?

Checking out the Church again? Thinking about maybe coming back?

Feeling like Rip Van Winkle? What happened to Purgatory, Limbo and all that kneeling? Angry at the Church for something in the past? Or in the present?

Welcome to the club. Most of us have been exactly where you are. Yet here we are day after day, week after week, a community of individuals brought together in a personal need in answer to an individual call, loved and accepted in a family of shared faith, supported and cared for by our own. How did we get here? Is this r-e-a-l-l-y the Catholic Church?

The good news is: MHR is 100% Catholic, we just don’t check our minds or our social consciences at the door. Our former Archbishop called us “A temple of light”. Our recent Archbishop calls us “The face of the Church in the 21st Century”.

The better news is: We’re not just holding a seat for you some Sundays. We’re inviting you to check us out, talk to us, listen to our Catholic take on things and let us listen to you. Ever had the chance to tell the Church how we hurt you, how we let you down? Been wanting to ask where the heck the confessionals went?

Interested??? You ought to be! Has anyone ever offered to say “I’m sorry?” Has anyone ever told you what you were taught wasn’t always gospel or that you don’t have to amen every proclamation from Rome? Reconnecting offers some new ways for you to look at things, find answers that work for you, come home to your Church.

If you:

  • Would like to reconnect with the Church through a journey shared with others like you, but don’t know where to begin?
  • Have six Saturday mornings between 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon, starting October 12, 2013
  • Have been baptized, confirmed and received communion.

Description: Reconnecting is a program developed at MHR for those who have been away from the Church and are thinking about coming back. It is also for those who have been back for a while, and would like to participate in a group to get a bit more up to date and maybe work on some issues. It is especially for those who left angry with the Church, as well as for those who became busy being adults, were sidetracked by other things in life and just drifted away.

In Reconnecting, we try to help people get started learning and experiencing their faith as intelligent, informed, thinking adults. Specific topics are worked on in a structured way.

Meetings: The twice yearly program consists of six consecutive 10 am Saturday Meetings held during Lent/Mystagogia and Advent.

Activities: Yearly Picnic, twice yearly Tour of the Church. The Reconnecting Program started in autumn of 2004.
