Description:

What our program is and is not: It is neither a “school house” where you sit and are instructed, nor is it a “course catalog” from which you pick subjects. The program is designed to be of a piece, meaning that, to the extent possible, our whole community moves forward together as we advance our individual and collective knowledge and experience. We know that everyone may not be able to attend every presentation, but we encourage you to participate in as many as possible.

Along with presentations from Father Steve and other members of our own parish, we reach out to other communities as well.  We aim for a wide variety of topics, many resulting from the parish survey we did in 2009.  Speakers have discussed such topics as the Mass, Vatican II, the "Our Father", Types of Prayer, Women in Church History, Conscience, End of Live Spirituality and Sex and Sexuality.  In the past two years, we have featured speakers from the University of San Francisco , the Jesuit School of Theology, and pastors from other San Francisco parishes.  The archdiocesan archivist and the Chaplain at an Elder Care Alliance community have spoken to us.

We aim for one session per month (except during Lent) on a Saturday morning.  Dates vary according to speaker availability. Presentations will last around 90 minutes, including time for questions.  This may vary, depending on the topic and presenter since we want to allow them as much flexibility as possible.  Some sessions have had more group involvement such as the Prayer Panel.   Some sessions may be shorter but in no case will they go over two hours.

We invite you to join us.  We are also always interested in additional ideas for speakers and topics.  Check the EVENTS section on this website for the current programs.
