The Christmas Narratives

All are invited to a spectacular and dramatic presentation of Scripture, light, and movement when Michael Reardon and Patrick Lane bring the Gospel of THE CHRISTMAS NARRATIVES to our community. This is a profoundly
moving and totally captivating work of faith, making the Scripture come alive in a fresh way, with music, lighting, and costuming, proclaimed in the oral tradition of the early church. Michael and Patrick traveled around the
world with this prayerful and powerful ministry of proclamation. Sunday, December 3 at 2 pm in our Church.

We will have soaps and candles, beautiful wall hangings, Mexican Christmas ornaments and items from all over the world. Join us that day and spread the word to all your friends and family.
• A big thank you to MHR's parishioners. We collected more than 90 pounds of change during our Widow's Mite Campaign, as well as other contributions. We will give you the final tally once it is all added up.
• We will meet on November 19, at 11:30 am in Ellard Hall to discuss the Christmas fair. Please join us if you want to help. For further information e-mail us at aidsinafrica@mhr.org or call Michael Nava through the Parish Office at 415-863-6259.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) funds many projects in the Bay Area. We, the JustFaith graduates, went to two of those projects last year as part of our program. We met with three women who are working mothers, and live in the Bayview/Hunters Point area. These women work hard through ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) to organize their community to end the violence and to clean up the neighborhood of toxic waste. These brave women could not continue their fight to make their streets safe for their children without the help of CCHD. We also met with the organizers of the Chinese Program Association in Chinatown who are working to improve the living conditions of the residents there through community organizing. We visited an SRO hotel where many Chinese residents still live in overcrowded and unsafe conditions. We heard their stories of hardship, but also their stories of hope. Thanks to these programs and many others, CCHD is empowering poor people to help themselves. There will be a second collection on November 18-19 to support the programs of CCHD.

Please be as generous as you possibly can in supporting their good work. Please remember that the collection basket will be passed only once. Kindly place both your regular Sunday Offering and your Campaign for Human Development Contribution in the collection basket. Thank you very much.

Faxed to MHR November 7, 2006

Dear Friends at Most Holy Redeemer,

Just a note to thank you for the enthusiastic response to our sale (last) Sunday (October 22). It was a pleasant day. I had help especially from Sr. Ruth Patrick and Sr. Cleta Herold, two good friends, and Marilee Hearn and Michael.
This year was a particularly good sale. We sold almost $1,500 worth of merchandise and as always, this will go to benefit the artisan groups we represent.

Everyone really appreciated the work of the artisans.

I always enjoy hearing how everyone has used the things that they bought the year before. I’ll look forward to next year’s feedback. The money we earn from the sale of these handicrafts is used in Guatemala to assist the six small businesses that make the items. I returned from Guatemala in September. I replenished our inventory by buying from these same businesses while I was there. As a member of the Fair Trade Federation, we pledge to establish continuing relationships with them. They therefore have a dependable income and are able to use their skills to support better lives for themselves. It was wonderful to see that your Social Justice Committee is working to encourage buying Fair Trade products.

We are launching a new web site on November 18 (www.mission-guatemala.org). It has lots of information about the people involved in our projects.

Again, thank you. Hope to see you again next year.
In Peace,
Kay Sweeney
