Secular Franciscans

The Liturgy of the Hours Apostolate offer this free service to anyone wishing to participate in the official daily prayer of the Church, the Liturgy of the Hours. "This web site offers daily Liturgy of the Hours Morning, Daytime, Evening and Night Prayer, plus the Office of Readings. The prayers are offered in Adobe Acrobat formats that print as booklets, display on PCs and mobile devices, and 'Read Out Loud' on PCs."

Voice of the Faithful This is the San Francisco chapter of the national Voice of the Faithful organization. Voice of the Faithful is a national organization created in the wake the clergy sexual-abuse scandal which hit the U.S. church.

Pax Christi USA strives to create a world that reflects the Peace of Christ by exploring, articulating, and witnessing to the call of Christian nonviolence. This work begins in personal life and extends to communities of reflection and action to transform structures of society. Pax Christi USA rejects war, preparations for war, and every form of violence and domination. It advocates primacy of conscience, economic and social justice, and respect for creation. Pax Christi is a section of Pax Christi International, the Catholic peace movement.

Martin de Porres House: "Martin's, as it is affectionately known, is a free restaurant, serving breakfast and lunch during the week and brunch on Sundays.
Martin's is a part of the Catholic Worker Movement, which was begun by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in 1933. Their philosophy and ideals have become deeply rooted in the hearts of thousands of men and women in the past 65 years and, as a result, over 150 Catholic Worker Houses worldwide carry out the various works of mercy in the spirit of "gentle personalism".

Mercy Housing: "Mercy Housing California (MHC) is the largest regional development corporation in the Mercy Housing System. MHC develops housing throughout California and has offices in San Francisco, Sacramento, Orange and Santa Cruz."

Mercy Center: "Mercy Center offers you its peaceful grounds surrounded by oaks and flower gardens in the heart of Burlingame, California. Sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy and rooted in the Catholic tradition, the Center welcomes women and men of diverse faiths and cultural backgrounds."

Catholic Lesbians Organization provides listings for many GLBT-friendly Catholic parishes throughout the U.S., in addition to resources for Catholic lesbians and their families and friends.

The National Association of Catholic Diocesan Lesbian and Gay Ministries "...Fosters ministry with lesbian and gay Catholics, their families and friends; Serves as a network of communication regarding Catholic lesbian and gay ministry;Provides educational resources and models of ministry;Encourages the participation of lesbian and gay Catholics within the Church;Communicates with other Catholic organizations, especially the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)..."

San Francisco Human Rights Commission: "The Human Rights Commission works to provide leadership and advocacy to secure, protect and promote human rights for all people. It was established in 1964 by City Ordinance,and became a Charter Commission in 1990."

Department of Human Services: "The Department of Human Services serves almost 100,000 San Franciscans each year. The people we serve are those who suffer hardship or who have been unable to participate fully in the social and economic life of the community."

Metropolitan Community Church: "A house of prayer for all people. A home for queer spirituality."

Sha'ar Zahav: Congregation Sha'ar Zahav is a progressive Reform synagogue, established in 1977. It is "a vibrant kehila (Jewish community) in the San Francisco Bay Area for people of all sexual identities."

Golden Gate Lutheran Church: "Reconciling in Christ (RIC) is a program of Lutherans Concerned/North America recognizing Lutheran congregations that welcome persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Begun in 1984, the RIC program has experienced amazing growth in the last few years. We believe its grass roots approach is the best way to help reform the church, one community at a time. St Francis Lutheran Church: "At St. Francis, we have a somewhat traditional service on Sunday morning, yet use inclusive language in our songs and liturgy. We stress inclusivity in other ways, with lay members taking important leadership positions in liturgy and in the organization."

Religious Witness With Homeless People: Founded in 1993, by Sister Bernie Galvin, CDP, this organization is "...a grassroots interfaith policy advocacy coalition in the San Francisco Bay area whose mission is to promote the human rights and dignity of homeless people, to advocate for just social policies and to nonviolently resist unjust policies, which discriminate against poor people. "

Dolores Street Community Services: "Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS) is celebrating 20 years as one of San Francisco's premiere providers of neighborhood-based shelter, housing, advocacy and support to homeless Latino men who work as day laborers and people living with disabling AIDS. Through our Dolores Housing Program, Richard M. Cohen Residence and Valencia Street neighborhood community center, DSCS serves a vital role in the community."

"Glide Memorial United Methodist Church. Located at Ellis and Taylor in the Tenderloin, one of San Francisco 's harshest urban environments, Glide Church is an oasis that has served the poor and disenfranchised for over 30 years. Glide serves over one million free meals a year, as well as AIDS testing, health care, women's programs, crisis intervention, basic services, literacy and computer training, jobs training and placement, and children, youth, and family educational programs."

"Larkin Street Youth Services stands as a nationally recognized, community-based agency that annually serves more than 3,000 youth and young adults ages 12-23. Through seventeen programs operating out of eight distinct San Francisco locations, LSYS offers a comprehensive continuum of services designed to respond to youth's immediate, emergency needs, while encouraging them to participate in programs that provide the skills and resources necessary to move beyond street life for good. Last year, over 80% of the young people who completed one of Larkin Street 's counseling programs permanently exited street life."
